Spring Equinox
Intro: We had one full week of spring break. First I thought I can go to north Georgia and camp a few days. Then, I decided to finish some work on Monday, weather turned very cold for a couple of days, and with the market uncertainty, gas jumped more than $1! So I shortened the plan to three picnic/camp trip to Grant National Forest, and my usual boring but mostly quiet campsite. I enjoyed the weather immensely.
After 40 I feel completely different. It is a strange feeling but I feel finally I have lost my inner kid. Exploring the nature is still one of the few enjoyment. But somehow I have been avoiding those crazy trips. So I enjoyed the local outdoor for this week long break. Overall it was a nice few outings. Day time weather was fantastic. It was smoky due to several prescribed burn around the national forest. Around sunset we had a few visitors, several birds, a possum, a deer we could hear in distance, and numerous butterflies. I spend most of my time fine tuning the gear and cooking.
This is the most amazing time of year. As cold weather warms up, trees are coming to life. It is a burst of life. You can see gray, yellow ground turns green. The weather is just perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Bugs are coming to life, but still not very aggressive.
Most notable project is a new tarp. This one is inspired by Frank Revelo. It is asymmetric, smaller than Ray Jardine’s design. I made it with silpoly. People say silpoly doesn’t have as much stretch as silnylon, in my experience it has a decent stretch, but it doesn’t shag when wet. But I agree with others, it is less forgiving in terms of small errors. It is hard to fix the appearance by stretching.
